An essential aspect to complying with health, safety and environmental requirements, is establishing excellent routines for inspection and maintenance.
Through systematic approaches, we provide full management of all inspection and maintenance related tasks throughout an assets life-cycle.
These services are provided both separately and combined. The combination of our inspection and maintenance management services provides a complete and up-to-date risk assessment and condition status of your assets. We also optimize costs and necessary downtime through well-coordinated inspection and maintenance intervals.
Inspection management
We have provided inspection planning to onshore and offshore facilities. Through collaboration with our clients, we participate in developing a positive culture for health, safety and environment (HSE) at work. This contributes to reduce risk, increase safety and improve environmental performance of assets.
We develop customized solutions that aim to:
- enhance profits
- prevent unexpected downtime/production loss
- prevent excessive corrosion/erosion
- minimize pollution and personnel injuries
Inspection planning involves various activities performed in order to optimize the use of the inspection resources, while at the same time ensuring the technical integrity of the asset. The inspection planning is defined using a risk-based analysis (RBA), which is a method where one identifies the probability and consequence of component failure. During the operational phase, the planning may be updated with more information such as inspection data, corrosion monitoring and process data.
Once data is collected and evaluated, an inspection scheme is set and detailed inspection plans are furnished, based on these schemes. This ensures an optimized inspection program, which is both focused on safety while maintaining cost-effectiveness, targeting inspection where and when it is needed.
Maintenance management
We offer customized solutions that utilize proven methods and specialized tools (e.g. Manifer) to ensure a cost-effective maintenance program. Following application of risk-based maintenance methods such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM); high quality maintenance plans are developed, maximizing the assets reliability and integrity.
During the project design phase, our services include:
- criticality analysis using Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
- preventive maintenance routine optimization
- spares optimization
- development and implementation of maintenance programs
During the operational phase, our services include:
- specification of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reporting system for follow-up assets condition
- analysis of failure history to update and optimize the maintenance plan
- analysis of condition monitoring data to schedule proactive maintenance actions
Through cooperation between the customer, we transfer the necessary expertise to the clients’ organization, achieving results that echo throughout the project.
Is prevention better then cure?
The fundamental idea behind organized and planned maintenance is that prevention is better than cure. Regardless of whether it is a building, a ship’s engine, special equipment or a production plant all will all be worn and wear over time. By planning an optimal maintenance regime you can minimize the overall cost.
There are several good reasons for planned maintenance:
- At breakdowns, consequential damage often occurs on other parts, and this increases the extent and cost of repair
- Focus on safety issues – to avoid personal injury
- Productivity loss at breakdowns is often highly significant
- Worn parts may gradually entail rising energy consumption or product integrity issues.
Planned maintenance could include:
- Filter or oil change at the right time so that detritus does not increase wear
- Repair of paint and other corrosion protection before the metal beneath corrodes
- Replacement of wearing parts at the appropriate time
- Selected ”hot spares” in store. This is updated with use.
- Small adjustments to be performed on a daily basis – this could be based on a check list
- Inspection or monitoring of the equipment condition – where should repair/replacement take place. Is replacement required immediately, or for how long can you wait before making the next repairs?
- Continuous optimization of the maintenance plan which is based on experience.
Organization of planned maintenance
To benefit best possibly from your planning, it is crucial that you consider the organizing.
For instance, you have to consider the following:
- Risk assessment – define the critical elements
- Determination of which components can be run to failure without an operational consequence
- Maintenance to be based on operation time, on inspection and on the supplier’s recommendations as deemed most suitable
- Decide which data shall be logged for the identification of the optimal time for replacement of components.
- Define which components are subject to legislative requirements and formulate compliant inspection intervals.
- Decide on who shall perform the inspection, and define the special skills required
- Formulate an alternative maintenance plan at an optimal production time
- Consider appropriate technical procedures that may give a timely warning of the condition.
We can help you get an overview of it all. Both the “hard” technical facts such as inspection, data logging, analyses and status assessments, and the “soft” technical procedures such as organization of maintenance, systemization and the involving of maintenance workers.
